One of my favorite parts of photographing newborn sessions is watching big brothers and sisters step into their new role. Whether they’re snuggling close, showing off their silly side, or simply stealing a quick glance at their new sibling, these photos beautifully capture how your family is evolving in this season.
Including siblings in newborn sessions is such a meaningful way to tell your family’s story. These images become a tangible memory of the moment your children’s bond began. Moments you’ll treasure long after they’ve outgrown tiny hands and toddler giggles.
Welcoming a new baby is a big transition for older siblings, so I always take a gentle, flexible approach when it comes to including them. There’s absolutely no pressure for your child to hold the baby or pose a certain way. What matters most is capturing their genuine connection, however it looks right now.
Some of the best photos come from unplanned moments like giggles, snuggles, or a sweet glance at their new sibling. I use playful prompts and plenty of patience to make sure older siblings feel included, safe, and celebrated.
Here are a few ways to set your child up for success:
Every family is different, and every sibling reacts in their own way. Some can’t get enough snuggles, while others need time to warm up. No matter what, trust the process. We’ll capture authentic, meaningful memories of your family in this beautiful season of change.
